Just in case you have noticed it yet, Google+ just got an upgrade that includes some cool new community features and a new notification tray. Here's a quote with the full details,

New community features in the new Android app

Today’s new Android app (v3.5) makes it easier to manage your Google+ community from your phone or tablet. We’ve got lots more planned, but for starters, moderators can now:

- Promote, remove, or ban members from their community
- Restore or remove posts that were marked for review

Separately, and by popular demand: it’s now possible to attach clipboard links to posts, and there’s lots more room to read your notifications. Today’s update is rolling out now to Google Play (http://goo.gl/xaxMx), so give it a try, and let us know what you think!

CES 2013 might have officially ended about four days ago, but we’re not quite ready to wrap up our coverage from the Las Vegas ground. Naturally, there isn’t anything still going on there, but you probably missed a couple of videos we shot last week due to all the Android-related fuss lately.

One of these clips is a preview of yet another Google TV device, called the TCL MoVo. The name probably doesn’t sound very familiar, but don’t think for a moment that TCL is a small company looking to just now get into this business.

On the contrary actually, because the Chinese multinational electronics giant has a history of over three decades, around 60,000 employees at the moment and holds the title of world’s fourth largest television producer, behind Samsung, LG and Sony.

Moreover, TCL is “to blame” for Alcatel’s recent impressive moves in the mobile world, having acquired half of the French company’s stakes back in 2005 and invested hundreds of millions of dollars in the new One Touch line-up of phones and tablets.

Now that you know who you’re dealing with, let’s see what this MoVo is all about. For starters, we should tell you that TCL has both a Google TV-enabled Smart TV and a set-top box ready to see daylight “later this year”.

Google has been very busy with new updates lately, and the trend doesn't stop today. Later today they plan to release a major Google+ app update that brings with a slew of improvements, bug fixes and new features. One of the primary new improvements is to photo and event features. Below is a highlight of some of the changes, followed by a Google source link for more details.

• Instant upload now includes up to 5GB of full-sized photo backups.
• The bandwidth efficiency of Hangouts has been improved, and only 150kbps is required to join a hangout.
• There is now Communities support for the mobile app.
• You can now send messages to each separate event guest, and you can see who opened their invites.
• They have made improvements to the posting menu, and added the ability to edit your profile on-the-go.
• There is now animated GIF support.
• The new update also includes a lock screen widget for Android 4.2.
• They added a new "mood" style post with a wide range of emotions.
• You can now see Birthday notifications through cards on Google Now. This includes G+ links to wish the person a happy birthday.

Google launched its Plus social network in mid 2011. The launch was surrounded with a lot of hype and excitement partly due to the fact that the social site of one of the world’s largest tech company was invite-based only in the beginning. Fast forward to today and you’ll see Google revealing some numbers that show how the relatively new social network is doing in terms of daily usage.

According to the company, there are over 500 million Google accounts that have activated Google Plus profiles, which brings the total number of Google Plus users at about half of Facebook’s 1 billion users. Although there are 500+ million people on Google Plus, only 253 million are actively using the social network’s services:

“More than 500 million people have upgraded, 235 million are active across Google (+1′ing apps in Google Play, hanging out in Gmail, writing reviews in Maps…), and 135 million are active in just the stream.”

The increasing popularity of Google’s social network means that the Google+ house is more crowded than ever. To maintain order in the playground and to keep the community “safe and secure”, the search engine titan has introduced some welcomed security measures.

The new features were announced by Google’s Pavni Diwanji on – you guessed it – her Plus page.


Building on the network’s comment moderation system, Google takes it a step further by letting you report any comments, posts and photos that reek of spam, porn, hateful sentiment, harassment and even copyright infringement straight to the big G. Likewise, if you come across a fake profile or one that you suspect has been hacked or compromised — you can also notify Google so that further action can be taken.

If you’re being harassed by someone during a public Hangout, don’t just take it sitting down, seeing that you can now report the perpetrator to Google. The system will automatically record the session, after first notifying the room, so that the clip can be analyzed by the team. In the meantime, you can quickly block the person.

Google+ just reached an awesome new milestone. According to a Google+ post by Googler, Vic Gundotra, Google+ reached 400 Million Total Users and is now adding up to 100 Million Active Users Per Month. Here's a quote from his post,

This week we also hit an important milestone--over 400,000,000 people have upgraded to Google+. It was only a year ago that we opened public sign-up, and we couldn’t have imagined that so many people would join in just 12 months. While Google+ is all about creating a better experience across Google, it’s also a destination. And here too, I’m happy to report that we have just crossed 100,000,000 monthly active users on Google+ (plus.google.com and mobile app).
